Root canal treatment has a fearsome reputation it no longer deserves. It is used to save a tooth whose inner pulp has become infected or inflamed. Under local anaesthesia, the infected tissue is gently removed, the canal is cleaned and disinfected, and the tooth is sealed, relieving the pain that brought you in.
Most patients say the procedure feels no different to a routine filling, and modern techniques make it quicker and more comfortable than ever. Afterwards, the tooth is usually protected with a crown so you can eat and smile normally for years to come.
